WHAT IS A CERTIFIED TRANSLATOR?

THE ROLE OF THE CERTIFIED TRANSLATOR

A Certified Translator or Certified Interpreter is an official translator authorized by the M.A.E. (Spanish Foreign Ministry).

A Certified Translator acts as a Notary, publicly attesting to the accuracy of a translation, sealing it and thereby certifying it as an Official Certified Translation.

Only a translation performed and sealed by a certified translator will have full validity in court or for public administration purposes.

ADVANTAGES OF A CERTIFIED TRANSLATOR

A CERTIFIED TRANSLATOR IS NOT SYNONYMOUS WITH BETTER- QUALITY TRANSLATIONS

It is commonly believed that a Certified Tranlsator will always produce a better translation, but this isn´t necessarily the case; the position of the Certified Translator is merely a legal formality.

A Certified Translator is a translator that has taken an official exam given by the Ministry.
He or she has a special title, but this doesn´t make him or her better nor worse; his or her signature and seal confer "a document with the validity and official nature" required for many legal and administrative processes.

Whatever the case, if you are looking for a precise legal translation, your best option is probably to opt for a "normal" translator specializing in legal translations, such as a practicing attorney. Such experts lend an extra level of exactitude to legal translations.

HOW MUCH DOES A CERTIFIED TRANSLATOR COST?
